Music by Chicago Artists available from Tuff City

Tuff City subsidiary Night Train International has released "Walkin' The Bullfrog" by the inimitable Chicago Rock-n-Roll artist and producer Lenny LaCour. Lacour's unique and inspired take on rock in the 50's and 60's sounded weird next to the poppier, conventional rock sound of the day. Fans of early blues and rock will delight to discover a fresh, unexpected voice from the early Chicago rock scene on this lovingly-curated compilation, including extensive liner notes.

Tuff City subsidiary Funky Delicacies has reissued the catalog of Harvey Scales, who has been referred to as "the godfather of midwestern soul". Harvey Scales made his impact on the Chicago soul scene as an artist signed to legendary Chicago label Chess Records subsidiary Cadet Concept in the early 70's. The CD compilation "Love-itis" collects Harvey Scales blues and soul sides (along with unissued material) from his work with legendary Chicago record producer Lenny Lacour.

Tuff City has acquired the complete catalog of Ovation Records, the highly esteemed independent label based out of Chicago. Ovation records recorded the finest talent out of the Chicago music scene, encompassing a spectrum of premium artists from Chicago folk scene star Bonnie Koloc, to legendary blues artist (and major Rolling Stones influence) Willie Dixon, to spiritual jazz luminary Doug Carn, to rare, quality titles from the likes of soul singer Geoffrey Stoner that will reward those music fans who choose to dig deeper.

Tuff City subsidiary Funky Delicacies has acquired the complete catalog of Chicago deep soul label Mod Art. The latest reissue from the Mod Art catalog is the "Hard Times" LP by visionary Chicago blues artist Guitar Red. On "Hard Times", Guitar Red transcends his usual blues repetoire by incorporating early electronic instruments to create sui-generis evolution of blues that seems to anticipate the birth of disco. While no other artist sounds like Guitar Red, his sound will appeal to fans of original, primitive, electric mutations of the blues.
