In the late 1960’s, Ovide Records was Houston, Texas’ home of deep soul grooves & uncut funk. Archie Bell & the Drells cut their classic hit “Tighten Up” for the Ovide label (before Atlantic bought out the record & made it an international smash) and the T.S.U. Toronados were to Ovide & Houston what Booker T & the M.G.’s were to Stax & Memphis with their vocal & instrumental jams (they also served as Ovide’s house band on many recordings). FUNKY FUNKY HOUSTON VOL. 1 chronicles Ovide’s best and rarest soul gems from the T.S.U. TORONADOS, THE AMERICANS OF ’68, THE SOUL MEDITATIONS & THE AMBASSADORS OF SOUL as well as previously unreleased track from the Ovide All-Stars. Funky Funky Houston Vol. 1 is part of multi-volume series spotlighting the Ovide label. All vinyl releases will carry the original Ovide label for a limited time only.
