Funky Delicacies kicks off its program of rare and unreleased Richmond, Virginia funk (1976-1980) with Starfire’s Get Off With Us (DEL LP 0068) and Out Of The Ghetto (DEL LP 0069), and Poison’s Cosmic Dancing (DEL LP 0070). This is pure, uncut, unexpurgated Southern Fried Funk, with no pretenses to be anything else. While both Starfire and Poison have deep, laid back pockets intrinsic to Southern music, Poison has a more organic, stripped-down, tribal feel. Every recording on the Poison album was taken from the original master tapes and transferred in-house at Tuff City on our trusty Ampex 1/4-inch and sent right down to the cutting room for vinyl mastering. Cosmic Dancing includes two previously unreleased recordings, Funky Graveyard and an extremely funky and raw take of the Doobie Brothers’ "Long Train Runnin’".
