In the early 90s, YZ gained massive exposure through videos that aired on MTV, and an album and a single on the Billboard pop charts. Although long forgotten by MTV, the rapper’s fierce lyricism over Tony D’s soulful production is a combination that still resonates with hip hop fans today. The music is not old enough to be considered real “old school,” but it’s old enough to have earned a place in hip hop history. This repress of The Best of YZ compiles tracks from Tuff City’s Sons of the Father LP and more. The CD contains 5 extra tracks not on the vinyl album, new artwork and new liner notes including a recent interview with Tony D.
