The latest installment in its series of reissues dedicated to New Orleans funk on it’s Funkadelicaseas imprint. Funky Funky New Orleans Volume 2 is set for a January 2002 release in the form of 1 CD and 2 Vinyl albums, Funky Funky New Orleans 2a & 2b. The series continues the exploration of the incendiary funk scene that New Orleans sustained almost entirely out of the range of the eyes of pop culture. 2a covers the broadest range of Funk Productions from the Quartet in a Closet Sound by Isaac Price’s the Funky Sweet, to the lush, almost orchestral sounds of Leroy Harris’ Dome City Orchestra. The vinyl albums clock in at 40 minutes each. The CD clocks in at an hour. The vinyl is constructed so that the first track of each side begins with a previously unknown breakbeat. In addition, the vinyl albums are constructed to use so that the 12 x 12 covers function as a palette, when placed side by side, they will construct a 12 x 24 reproduction of a classic photograph by the reknown artist Mike Smith, of a circa. 1976 urban New Orleans street highlighted by a popular record store.
Reviews:
"Funk. And not the type of funk you are likely to catch at Tip’s, but the kind of greasy ghetto grooves that emit from jukeboxes in places where they sell cigarettes by the single, beer by the quart and set-ups instead of liquor. Yep, James Brown and the Meters may have put it on the map, but here’s where you will find their protégé’s seizing that groundwork and blasting it into outer space." -Where Y'At
