Ike Turner's "The Bad Man" spotlights the work Ike produced and/or released on his series of record labels (Prann, Teena, Sonja, Sony and Innis) during his early years in Los Angeles (1962-65). This compilation includes tracks from the likes of Ike Turner & Dee Dee Johnson, Robbie Montgomery and the Ike-ettes, Ike & Tina Turner, Fontella Bass, Vernon Guy, The Tunrabouts, Bobby John, Jimmy Thomas, and George Jackson. This chapter of Ike's career as a label owner and producer may not have resulted in hit records, but it shows that (like Motown and Phil Specter) Ike's stylistic consistency coupled with his ongoing integration of outside influences resulted in music that was and is as good as the hits he made. Night Train's Ike Turner/ "The Bad Man" is proof that great pop / soul music can overcome and survive obscurity.
