Spinnin' Webs & Rappin' Rhymes

Spyder D.

Ol' Skool Flava

OSF LP 4027

Following the success of rap's early hits (i.e. Rapper's Delight, Christmas Rap, Spoonin' Rap), a second wave of rappers exploded upon the scene from parts of New York other than the Bronx or Harlem. The Queens division of the second wave was pioneered by fledgling producer/artist Spyder D. From his early sessions released on a small independent Harlem label to his own label releases on Newtroit and later Fly Spy, Spyder D quickly mastered the craft of recording and releasing 12" singles as both artist and producer, as well as label executive. This is a collection of some of those independent efforts, featuring classics such as "Big Apple Rappin'" (one of the top rap singles ever according to Ego Trip's Book of Rap Lists). Once described in The Source Magazine as "rap's unsung hero," Spyder D helped ignite the careers of several acts including Sparky D, Freddy B, and Teddy Riley.
